Which Voice Are We Listening To?
This current age, and time, is distinctly unique because there are so many influential and significant voices. Social media, televised news, written publications, local and national social trends; and even our own conscience speaks daily several times throughout the day. When leading worship or ministering the Gospel in any way, we directly combat these voices with the Truth! Ministering the Truth is such a vast task, to say the least. According to 2 Timothy 3:16, God’s Word is inspired by God and profitable for reproof, correction, and righteous instruction. God’s Word is true from Genesis to Revelation. With this concept in mind, as we minister we must think about the relevance of the truth.
Let us be clear, none of God’s Word has an expiration date.
What God has spoken does not go in and out of season. Such as fashion and social trends. His Word was Truth, His Word is Truth and His Word will be Truth. However, the Father is intentional. You wouldn’t go to an English class expecting to learn the Pythagorean Theorem. Why? Because although the principles of the theorem remain true, it would not be wise (or applicable) to teach this subject in an English class. I assure you, God’s Word is more complex, intentional and relevant than any academic study. As ministers of the Gospel we must know what Truth God is speaking to His people. This is what I call being prophetically alert.
So then, how do we know what God is saying? In and of ourselves, this is an impossible mission. Thanks be to God for the Holy Spirit! He is the strongest, most intelligent person we will ever meet. Yet, He is more comforting, patient and loving that we can mentally conceive. John 16:13 says, He only speaks what He hears from the Father. Then He prophetically reveals to us what is to come. We have a direct connection to the courts of Heaven. This is why we must listen and submit to the Voice of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit reveals the will and Heart of the Father! He is the voice that out ranks, overpowers and outweighs all other voices. He tells us when to encourage the body, when to rebuke the Church, when to teach the Bride and when to just exalt and bask in the Glory.
Amos 3:7 tells us that God does NOTHING without revealing His plan to His servants and prophets. What happened to divine revelation in the Church? Are we so focused on other voices that we can’t hear what the Holy Spirit is saying? Leaders are focused on popular trends, congregations are focused on fancy production, and meanwhile we’re missing the heart and will of the Father. Planning and rehearsing is our reasonable service (Roman 12:1). Listening to the Holy Spirit is our strength and weapon.
We all must ask ourselves, which voice am I listening to? The voice of people? Social media? My own ambitions? Or the Voice of God’s Spirit. Prophetic precision is paramount. So… Listen closely to what He says.
In conclusion let us be grateful that God’s Spirit conveys and communicates to us from the heart of God. Romans 8:26 says that the Holy Spirit super-intercedes on our behalf. Confirming that He also conveys our prayers to the Father. What more could we ask for? In Him do we live, move and exist! Our God is faithful!
